Basildon Bridge
Location: Basildon, UK
Client: English Partnerships, on behalf of the Basildon Renaissance Partnership
The competition-winning concept design for the A127 bridge at Basildon, designed for English Partnerships, was inspired by the natural world and shaped in futuristic and fluid forms.
Construction materials for the bridge include structural steel and Ductal, a new form of high strength concrete. The material has been tested for projects by the U.S highways Authority. The material has the benefit of high compressive and bending strength, and low values of creep. It is fibre reinforced and has high durability. The proposal demonstrates a simple, imaginative design, contextually sensitive. The design integrates a very high quality bridge into the landscape.
