The nuts and bolts of reuse

Deconstruction Handbook Cover Draft

What is it?

A compact handbook outlining a series of tips and tricks on:
1) the feasibility of reuse of fit-out materials
2) how to specify and design for the reuse of new materials
3) a series of urban mining case studies outlining MBA’s process and
learnings on how to achieve a circular building
4) A directory of reuse schemes, suppliers and traders

Handbook's Aim

Our aim is to strengthen approach towards the circular economy, by providing advice to designers and specifiers on how to facilitate urban mining in the construction industry; bridging the gap between developers, architects, interior designers, engineers, suppliers and contractors. The first edition of this pocketbook focuses on the commercial sector, in particular wasteful materials which occur at a high turnover. This will reduce the embodied carbon emissions and construction waste in response to the climate emergency. While there is a plethora of great literature in the circular economy sphere on reuse, this book aims to take the learnings and expertise of both architects and deconstruction experts, to provide practical and implementable advice now in an easy to use guide.
