“... outstanding: an elegant pavilion that floats serenely in the Queen’s Dock.”
Pevsner Architectural Guide to Liverpool, 2004
Operated by MCVS Merseysport, the Liverpool Watersports Centre provides affordable sailing, wind-surfing and canoeing activities for local people, and enables disadvantaged members of the community – including inner-city children and disabled people – to discover the excitement and challenge of watersports.
This award-winning building, located within Queen’s Dock, Liverpool, received the 1995 Royal Institute of British Architects Regional Award, the Liverpool Architecture and Design Trust Award, a Structural Steel Design Award, and was short-listed for the BBC Design Awards.
“Throughout the consultative period the design team responded quickly to client requirements. During construction phases problems were dealt with in an efficient and effective manner. The character and quality of the completed building is one which will complement the improved Central Liverpool Water Area and will give many hours of satisfaction to its users.”
